Circle of Friends Centre for Alternative Learning -- shortened to "COFCAL" -- provides a different way of learning. We work together as Friends, in an atmosphere based on friendship (not religion). "Alternative Education" that we support here means that there are no "tutors" and "students" as such but that everyone is both -- we share our knowledge and experiences both ways. The effect is a great feeling of 'expansion' and of 'togetherness', we all of us have a holiday, an invigorating time together, and go forward feeling refreshed. The Teacher is not more important than the Student; the Student is not more important than the Teacher. Both of them are learning from each other. The ultimate outcome is that everyone becomes more aware that their life and accumulated knowledge makes them a valuable person in the World we all share. We work from an ethical base. We are here to take care of the world and improve conditions for the people yet to be born; as they will be for those who follow them. Education is the process of building on what is there, of making it better, of making the World a better place to live, a place where everything has its place, where there is a place for everything. We cannot achieve this without patience, without accepting that the dream we have will not be realised by us much beyond where we are at any time. The process is slow.
We agree with many ideas including -- sustainable processes, Permaculture, organics, peaceful interactions.... One strong belief has come from dealing with people from all over the world... In every country, in every society, within people of all ages and genders ... there are kindred souls seeking equated outcomes... friendship is hampered only by lack of contact and communication. With this all in mind, we want to help those interested, by sharing our experiences, by providing hands-on methods of understanding, by enabling and encouraging rapid development of conversation in English (which is our sole language ability) by those who have an existing vocabulary. We offer you the choice to share our academic knowledge, our lifetimes of experiences, and our assets and moral support in your journey through this wonderful experience called Life.
